Self Love and The Makeup Counter

One thing that I can definitely say about working for a makeup company and being in the beauty industry in general, is that I have had the chance to meet some of the most amazing people. It really brings joy to me to know that I am able to us my gifts to help, uplift and encourage women.. especially those who look most like myself and often times need, just as much as I do, that familiar connection in spaces of beauty. Because beauty these days seems to swing in so many directions, it can be hard to know where you stand in it all. My job is more than helping women find their perfect shade of foundation or being my brides right hand girl during her glam session and Ive come to realize this the more and more I get the opportunity to do what I love.

With all of this being said, and as much as I love to help women be their best self I have to step in and give you ladies a very vital piece of advice: LOVE YOURSELVES! Love yourself sis, all of who you are and who your growing to be. You wouldn’t believe how often women stop into the makeup counter and as soon as I greet them, the first thing out of their mouths is criticism.. of themselves. Comparison is a dangerous game to play and it can really take you to a place of feeling unworthy and less than when you are nothing of the sort.

“I hate my skin tone!”

“this is what happens when you get old”

“Ugh this would look so much better on you than me!”

“what products and I missing, I need to cover all this mess”

Picking away at your features when you step into the lights and in front of the huge mirrors at a makeup counter honestly seems so common its almost like, thats what we are supposed to do. The act of applying makeup and even buying it becomes more about stressing over “imperfections” than it is about recognizing your natural beauty and adding to it. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with wanting correction, but the reason in which we want it must be rooted in LOVE and not insecurity.

I get it sis, we are our biggest critics and often times worst hater. There is no reason to feel bad about that either, don’t feed the cycle. You can fully recognize the way you feel and still determine that you wont allow it to become apart of your reality. Changing your mindset about how you view yourself opens up a window of opportunity to love yourself like never before, trust me i’m learning this right now.

My ultimate goal is always going to be to help you into the right direction with your slay, but I encourage you today to just be a little kinder to yourself. Step away from the foundation, contour and instagram and really give who you are in this moment some genuine love. This is not something that happens over night, and thats okay because we love ourselves through the process over here! Going into spaces of beauty should never feel like a check list session of all the things you think aren’t right with you, it should be fun and a safe space.

Remember, focusing on the person who think you should be takes away from the beauty of who you already are.

love ya girl!
